Apoteket Hjorten

Apoteket Hjorten ( German Hirsch-Apotheke ) in Oslo was a pharmacy in Grønland district in Oslo. The name Apoteket Hjorten ( Hirsch-Apotheke ) is used at a number of pharmacies in Norway. So there are, among other deer pharmacies in several Norwegian cities, as in Fredrikstad and Trondheim.

The Oslo Apoteket Hjorten was founded in 1857 in a former building, according to a Royal Decree of 4 December 1856. The pharmacy was after its opening, the fifth with a corresponding concession in the former Christiania, today Oslo. After a fire in 1859, in which 18 people died, they began to build a new pharmacy building on the property. The new building was designed by the Oslo architects, town planners and surveyors ( Stadskonduktør ) Chr H. Grosch designed and completed in 1861. In 1963, the pharmacy was first extensively renovated while keeping the entire original pharmacy decor and furnishings of 1861 further expanded by the pharmacist Anders Tenøe the Norsk Farmasihistorisk Museum (Norwegian Pharmacy Museum) left, part of the Norwegian Folk Museum, located on Oslo's Bygdøy and district is located. Then it was restored in the museum and faithfully rebuilt, where you can visit the historic Apothekeneinrichtung.

The pharmacy building itself was renovated again in 1986 and 2000 once again transformed into a café. The premises of the former pharmacy have since been further used as a restaurant and café Dattera til Hagen. The new pharmacy as a successor of the old Apoteket Hjorten was housed in the Vitusapotek Hjorten in Smalgangen 5 and so close to her home. The building of the former Apoteket Hjorten is now a protected monument.
