Christian Heinrich Grosch

Christian Heinrich Grosch ( born January 21, 1801 in Copenhagen, † May 4, 1865 in Christiania ) was a Danish- Norwegian architect.

Life

After first draughtsmanship training from his father, the painter Heinrich August Grosch (1763-1843), learned Grosch 1819-1820 at the Royal Drawing School. 1820-1824 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After completing his studies he went to Christiania, where he worked as an assistant with HDF Linstow for configuring the new lock construction.

1827 (or 1828) was Grosch stadskonduktør ( comparable to a Planning Director ), an office which he held until his death. 1824 to 1840 he also taught at the Royal Drawing School.

Important works in Oslo are the Exchange ( 1826-28 ), the building for the Norges Bank ( 1828), the main building of the university and the old Christiania Theater on Bankplassen (1837 ). The design for the University in 1838 he sent the esteemed by him Karl Friedrich Schinkel in Berlin. The execution was carried out according to the plans edited 1841-1854. Moreover Grosch designed numerous churches and public buildings outside of Oslo, for example, the Valberg ( Valberg Tower ) in Stavanger ( 1850-53 ).
