Appenzell goat

The Appenzell Goat is a domestic goat from eastern Switzerland. The Appenzell Goat is from the Swiss Appenzell region. It looks similar to the Saanen goat, but is much smaller.

The breed began in Innerrhoden in 1902 and in Ausserrhoden to 1914. The height at withers in males 70 to 85 cm and in females 70 to 80 centimeters. The minimum weight shall be 65 kg in males and 45 kg for females. The coat is pure white and of medium length. Most animals are polled. The milk yield is good and constant. The milk is mostly processed into cheese. The Appenzell Goat has remarkably broad, well- suspended udders.

In Appenzell, the traditional procession up is always accompanied with Appenzell goats. A boy in traditional costume Senn leads a flock of about twelve animals.

The breed is considered endangered.
