AppleShare

AppleShare was a product of Apple, which allows client applications to a computer on a network to share files with a server and use of this services offered. AppleShare can be used in LAN via DDP, TCP / IP was possible with the successor AppleShare IP. With AppleShare a user can access files, applications, printers, and other resources on a remote server access.

All Macintosh and Mac OS clones with client support for AppleShare. A heavily cut-down version can be found on the system 7.0 in the form of the Personal File Sharing, which works much slower than AppleShare and a maximum of 10 simultaneous connections allowed. Microsoft Windows NT Server and Novell NetWare offer both AppleShare server support, although currently only available via AppleTalk. Client / Server support for AppleShare from other vendors are available for Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95 and Windows NT, as well as for Unix systems.

A client or server can implement different AppleShare protocol variants. The actual protocol used is negotiated before a meeting.

After the release of Mac OS X Server, which goes beyond the functionality of AppleShare, the development of AppleShare was adjusted.
