Appliqué
An applique or eg textiles and Application ( German for double applique, applicare from the Latin, " add " ) generally refers specifically crafted and primarily serving the decoration details that applied flat on objects of the same or a different material, be so placed.
An application in the historical and contemporary metal processing is called Tauschierung. An important example is the Sky Disc of Nebra from the Bronze Age.
Flat applique decorative pieces, especially of furniture, were already in ancient Egypt and in the ancient common (see inlay ). The silhouetted decorative pieces were usually made in the form of reliefs made of ivory, tortoiseshell or ceramic. Cast, forged and also gilt decorative pieces that you used in the manufacture of furniture, especially in the late Baroque period, are usually called " fittings ", but referred to in rare cases as applique. Appliques on clothing come early, especially in front of church textiles and curtains.
In the field of education attached to the panel paintings and texts to supplement the panel image are referred to as applications.
Special appliques
Among the special appliqués in the textile sector is one of the drafting of tips on materials. The fabric appliqués in the making of quilts is widespread. Often this fabric pieces are cut and sewn, but angehäkelt later on textiles retroactively or embroidered. The latter is called appliqué embroidery. Even with leather applications are common. They usually consist of silhouetted cut-out ornaments that are quilted or glued on.
Other meanings
Applique applique or Germanized also called a wall lamp or a wall bracket. Such one-or multi-arm, and often swivel, wall arms are known as candle holders since the Gothic period. Culmination of these appliques shape was the time of Louis XV, Rococo under the French king Louis XV.
