Ar Men

Ar Men ( Breton of the rocks ) is the name of a built 1867-1881 lighthouse in the Atlantic Ocean near the western coast of Brittany, which marks the entrance of His Passage.

Due to its isolated location far in the Atlantic and the difficult working conditions, coupled with a partially weeks not possible evacuation of the tower crew, he was referred to as " hell of hells ." Work on the construction of the Ar Men presented themselves as extremely complicated, as the creature was often destroyed after a short time by the strong waves. Therefore, the work lasted unusually long 14 years.

The lighthouse is 33.5 meters high, its fire height is 37 m. Since April 10, 1990 is its signal from three white flashes every 20 seconds, accompanied by three tones every 60 seconds.

From 1897 to the firing was carried out by means of oil. 1903 was converted to oil vapor and 1988 was converted to electricity. In 1990, the tower was automated and has since not been inhabited.
