Arab Cup of Ice Hockey

The Arab Cup of Ice Hockey is an ice hockey tournament for national teams from the Arab world, which was originally supposed to be held annually. Ultimately, the tournament was played only once, in 2008.

History

After since the late 1990s, increasing the interest in hockey in the Arab States and national teams were established in Morocco, Kuwait, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, these four countries decided to found the Arab Cup of Ice Hockey.

2008 edition

The first edition of the tournament organized annually from now on place from 16 to 20 June 2008 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, instead. Each team played five games (along with the final round ) and the host United Arab Emirates was the winner of the tournament out, followed by the teams from Kuwait, Morocco and Algeria.

With eleven scorer points, including four goals in five games of the Algerian Harond Litim was voted most valuable player of the tournament.

The second Arab Cup of Ice Hockey to be held in Kuwait City, Kuwait 2009. Due to the establishment of the Arab Ice Hockey Federation and the inclusion of two other members following the tournament there were organizational difficulties and the next edition of the Arab Cup was first postponed to 2010, and ultimately canceled.

As a replacement for the tournament, the national teams of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in 2010 founded the Ice Hockey Championship of the Gulf, where they met with the teams of Saudi Arabia and Oman.
