Arakamchechen Island

Arakamtschetschen (Russian Аракамчечен ) is an uninhabited island in the far east of Russia. It is located east of the Chukchi Peninsula in the Bering Sea and belongs administratively to Rajon Provideniya in the Autonomous District of the Chukchi ( Chukotka ).

Arakamtschetschen is separated by about 5 km wide Senjawin road from the mainland. The island is 32 km long and up to 21 km wide; its coastline is 75.3 km long and its area is 267.8 km ². It reaches a height of Mount Athos in 615 meters above the sea. 3 km south of Arakamtschetschen the neighboring island Yttygran is ( Ыттыгран ), approximately 60 km southeast belonging to St. Lawrence Island Alaska.

Arakamtschetschen is known for its large walrus populations and represents a popular destination for eco-tourists
