Description

Vegetative characteristics

Araucaria bernieri grows as columnar, evergreen tree that can reach heights of growth of 40 to 50 meters. The gray bark peels off in thin strips. The 4 to 6 millimeters thick branches of a plane are arranged in a U -shape.

In young specimens the leaves are needle-like and relatively thick with a length of about 7 mm, triangular with a sharp- pointed top. On older trees the like roof tiles covering sheets with a length of 2 to 3.5 millimeters and a width of 1.5 to 2.5 millimeters are scale-like, keeled - triangular with a curved- top.

Generative features

Araucaria bernieri is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). The bluish- white-colored male cones are cylindrically shaped with a length of 4-9 cm and a diameter from 0.8 to 1.6 centimeters. They contain triangular Mikrosporophylle with four to six pollen sacs. The clear blue -green colored female cones have a length of 10 centimeters and a diameter of 7.5 to 8 centimeters.
