Araucaria moist forests

The Floresta ombrófila mista are Araucaria forests that once extended into southern Brazil and partly in the province of Misiones (Argentina ) over a very large area. They are not to be confused with the Araucaria forests of the Andes.

Characteristic of the Floresta ombrófila mista the Brazilian Araucaria tree is (Araucaria angustifolia). In these forests many endangered animal and plant species occur, including the Azure Raven ( Cyanocorax caeruleus ) and the Jaguar. Of note is the unusually high diversity of anurans ( Anura ). To date, here on an area of ​​about 300 square kilometers 76 species from 24 genera detected, about a quarter of which is endemic.

This forest formation is part of the Mata Atlântica biome.
