ARBED

ARBED (acronym for Aciéries Réunies de Burbach -Eich -Dudelange, German " United Steelworks Burbach -Eich - Dudelange " ) was a Luxembourgian steel company.

The acronym stands for the following locations:

  • Burbach, a district of Saarbrücken
  • Esch sur Alzette, a city in the south of Luxembourg
  • Dudelange, a town in southern Luxembourg.

History

The company was founded in 1911 through a merger, the history of the then combined company up to the year 1882. This included 1982 Arbed Saarstahl GmbH in Völklingen and its predecessor Voelklinger hut, hut Burbach and Neunkirchen iron work. In 1992 Arbed had also bought the Maxhiitte ( Unterwellenborn ).

In order to ensure the required supply of coke for steel production, closed the ARBED 1913 interest a contract with the Eschweiler mine Club ( EBV). The close cooperation between Arbed and EBV ended only with the acquisition of EBV -Zeche Westfalen in Ahlen through the Ruhr coal AG in 1993.

2001 merged the company with Aceralia and Usinor for Arcelor, now merged into ArcelorMittal.

Today, the name ARBED persists eg ARBED piling GmbH in Germany. The level of awareness is the reason for the retention of the brand ARBED the German market for steel sheet piles.

2011 presented Luxembourg National Archives - on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the formation of Arbed, the founding of the community of interest between the Hauts- de Furneaux et Aciéries Rumelange -St. Ingbert ( German: Blast furnaces and steel mills / steel mills of ... ) and the German -Luxembourg mine and metallurgical corporation of Differdange and the inauguration of Adolf Emil hut in Belval, their documentation of the last hundred years of the Luxembourg railway industry in an exhibition.
