Arcana (Swedish band)
Arcana is a founded in 1994, Swedish music project from the area of neoclassicism.
History
Conceived and directed musical is Arcana by musician Peter Bjärgö. He had previously been involved in various musical projects, especially in the fields of metal and punk. The idea for the foundation of Arcana describes Bjärgö follows:
" In 1993 I accepted the factthat an ordinary ribbon line -up was too narrow for me and I Decided to start a project, later named Arcana. It was based on the ideas did had been haunting me for a very long time, the ideas of creating medieval inspired music, or Perhaps I Should say based on the romantic image we all have about the middle ages, and doing did through a very personal point of view ... "
" In 1993, I accepted the fact that a normal band line-up was ' too limited for me, and I decided to start his own project, which later was called Arcana. This was based on ideas to create medieval inspired music, which has haunted me for a long time. Or maybe I should say, based on the romantic image that we all have about the Middle Ages and this saw everything from a very personal point of view ... "
In order to realize his musical ideas, Bjärgö needed a female singing voice, which he found with Ida Bengtsson. Together, they recorded a demo and sent it to Roger Karmanik, founder of the label Cold Meat Industry. Karmanik gave the duo first the possibility to come up with a song participate in a compilation. The song The Song of Mourning was well received: Bjärgö and Bengtsson received a contract for two albums on Cold Meat Industry. In 1996 the first album, Dark Age of Reason was published. A year later Cantar de Procella.
The success of the album led to a renewal of the contract with Cold Meat Industry. Nevertheless, it took three years before with ... The Last Embrace 2000 was the third album. On this CD was also Marcus Ohlsson involved as a cellist and Johan Hallgren responsible for the choirs. 2001 left Ida Bengtsson Arcana and wanted to go their own way. She was replaced by singer Ann -Mari Thim. It has also been brought into the band with Stefan Eriksson, a keyboard player. Inner Pale Sun, 2002 was the result. This was the last album, which was released under the label Cold Meat Industry.
2003 was eventful for Peter Bjärgö. He married Ia Bjärgö and founded Erebus odora is own label. Ia Bjärgö acts since then with the choir of Arcana. Under the label Erebus odora was released in 2004 with Le serpent rouge a more oriental sounding album and the tenth anniversary of The New Light: a compilation of previously unreleased pieces and alternate song versions of Arcana that arose between 1994 and 2003.
As of 2006, Arcana is again under a foreign label under contract, the German label Kalinkaland Records. Lack of time and financial reasons were the cause. Under this label, was released in 2008 the album Raspail. The name makes a reference to the album Within the Realm of a Dying Sun by Dead Can Dance. Its cover shows a photo of the grave of the French scientist and politician Francois Vincent Raspail. Substantive effects of this reference according to P. Bjärgö but not. 2009 left Stefan Eriksson Arcana, with Mattias Borgh the group was reinforced by a drummer again.
About the band name Arcana says P. Bjärgö:
" I actually thought did is what a girl's name, but then I found out what it did from old english, and it is the word ' secret'. "
"I originally thought it would be a girl's name. But then I found out that the word originated from the traditional English and the word for 'secret' was. "
