Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens

Hieronymus II or Ieronymos II (Greek Ιερώνυμος Β ', real name: Ioannis Liapis Ιωάννης Λιάπης; born March 10, 1938 in Inofita, Boeotia ) is a Greek Orthodox priest. Since 2008 he has been Archbishop of Athens and head of the autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece.

Life

Hieronymus II - whose real name is Ioannis Liapis - was born in 1938 in the central Greek region of Boeotia and came from a family arvanitischen. First Liapis graduated from the Orthodox theology. The ordination to the diaconate in 1967, also in 1967 the ordination to the priesthood. On October 4, 1981 Ioannis Liapis was ordained an Orthodox bishop. He also served as Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of Greece. The election of Archbishop of Athens took place on 7 February 2008. Solemn consecration as Archbishop of Athens took place on 16 February 2008.
