Central Greece (region)

Central Greece ( Sterea Ellada Greek Στερεά Ελλάδα, Mainland Greece ') is one of the thirteen regions of Greece. It includes a part of the central mainland Greece and the islands of Evia and Skyros; Capital is Lamia.

Regional districts and municipalities

The region of Central Greece is divided into five regional districts that correspond to the areas of the former five prefectures of the region. Proportional to their population, they send a certain number of MEPs in the 51 -member Regional Council.

Economy

Sterea Ellada is the wealthiest region in Greece. Expressed in comparison with the EU GDP in purchasing power standards reached Sterea Ellada 2003 index of 115.7 (EU -25: 100). The unemployment rate in 2005 was 10.9%.
