Archduchess Hedwig of Austria

Archduchess Hedwig of Austria (* September 24, 1896 in Bad Ischl, † November 1, 1970 in Hall in Tirol) was the daughter of Archduke Franz Salvator of Austria - Tuscany and his wife Marie Valerie of Austria. She was a granddaughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria - Hungary.

Life

Hedwig came on September 24, 1896 in Ischl to the world. Empress Elisabeth visited her daughter shortly after birth and sent a telegram to Vienna informative. The baptism took place in the grand salon of the Imperial Villa. As of 27 September 1896, the newspaper reported, the fatherland from being Marie Valerie and little Archduchess. On September 30, the name Hedwig was first mentioned. On October 2, a final medical report was published. Marie Valerie later named Hedwig in her diary the one that had the certain spark of the Bavarian ducal blood in it.

Hedwig's governess was Elsa Köhler. Marie Valerie wrote about her daughter Hedwig in 1917 the hunting lodge Kühtai as a wedding gift. This castle was purchased in 1893 by Emperor Franz Joseph and bequeathed to his youngest daughter.

Hedwig married on 24 April 1918, the parental lock Wallsee Count Bernhard of Stolberg- Stolberg ( 1881-1952 ), a son of Count Leopold of Stolberg- Stolberg and civil American Mary Eddington. The marriage produced nine children were born.

1949 applied for Hedwig ( Countess ) Stolberg- Stolberg, as it was known since their marriage, an ERP loan for the construction of a ski lift next to her estate. The then Ministry of Commerce and Reconstruction, Ernst Kolb, denied this later revitalized the grounds of Unrentabilität.Drei years Hedwig's son Charles the castle and transformed it into a palace hotel. Thus the basis was laid for Kühtai as situated ski resort, which is considered to be highly situated ski resort situated in Austria today.

Hedwig died in 1970 with 74 years in Hall, Tyrol. She is buried in the family vault in the cemetery Hall.
