Archibald Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton

Archibald Douglas-Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton and 6th Duke of Brandon ( * July 15, 1740, † February 16, 1819 in Ashton Hall ) was a Scottish nobleman.

Life

Archibald Hamilton was a son of James Hamilton, 5th Duke of Hamilton and his second wife Elizabeth Strangeways. He succeeded his nephew Douglas Hamilton, 8th Duke of Hamilton as 9th Duke of Hamilton in 1799. Archibald was educated at Eton College and was a member of Parliament for Lancashire. He succeeded his nephew, also in the office of Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, but he was interested in life more for horse racing than in politics.

Progeny

Archibald married in 1765 Harriet ( 1750-1788 ), daughter of Alexander Stewart, 6th Earl of Galloway, and had with her the following children:
