Archibald Howie

Archibald " Archie " Howie ( born March 8, 1934) is a British physicist. He is best known for his seminal work on transmission electron microscopy.

Howie attended Kirkcaldy High School and the University of Edinburgh. He received the Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, where he has gradually acquired a permanent position. He was a Fellow of Churchill College since its inception and until 2010 President of the Senior Combination Room (SCR).

In 1965 he published the work Electron Microscopy of Thin Crystals, along with Peter B. Hirsch, MJ Whelan, Pashley and Nicholson.
