Ardaris

Ardaris is a genus of butterflies in the family Hesperiidae. It includes two endemic species that are native to the Cordillera de Mérida in Venezuela.

Features

The two species of the genus Ardaris of which Ardaris hantra was considered a subspecies of Ardaris eximia long, are very similar to the wing drawing forth. On the dark brown forewings, they have a series of white spots, which stretches from the wing tip almost parallel from the outer edge to the middle of the inner edge of the wings. Another white spot located on the Diskoidalader the forewing. The hind wings are dark brown on the upper side with orange spots, the under side outweighs the Orange share. Similar to the row of white spots on the forewing runs through a dark brown band the orange areas on the hind wings, also parallel to the outer edge to the middle of the inner wing margin. The genus is hardly to be confused with other genera of Hesperiidae, similarities exist only to the genera Mimardaris and Metardaris.
