Ardenay-sur-Mérize

Ardenay -sur- Mérize is a commune in the department of Sarthe in the Pays de la Loire. It belongs to the district Mamers and the Canton of Montfort- le- Gesnois. On 1 January 2011 the municipality had 487 inhabitants.

Geography

Ardenay -sur- Mérize is located about 10 km due east of Le Mans at an altitude 65-123 m above sea level, the average height is 104 m. The municipality covers 11.67 km ² ( 1,167 ha), and the population density is 37 inhabitants per km ². The village lies on the edge of the extensive forest Bois de Loudon.

History

The place was first mentioned in the 13th century when there were about a dozen fief, who had settled on the former bog.

In the 17th century, the inhabitants were converted to the Protestant faith, and built next to the church another prayer point.

During the Franco-German War occurred in Ardenay -sur- Mérize on January 9, 1871 skirmishes leading up to the Battle of Le Mans.

Culture and sights

Other attractions in the Château d' Ardenay belongs to the 17th and 18th centuries. However, the moat is now dry. Furthermore, there are the ruins of a medieval chapel and a park in the French style.

Economy and infrastructure

Approx. 500 m southeast of the town center there is the water factory Cristal Roc, founded in 1968 by Max Reculard ( 1908-1999 ).

Other branches of industry are agriculture, especially the cultivation of grain and cattle. In the village there is a sawmill.

Is accessed Ardenay -sur- Mérize by the N 157 (Le Mans - Saint Calais ). Further infrastructure with rail connection is located in Le Mans.
