Ardre Church

The Church of Ardre (Swedish Andre kyrka ) is a country church on the Swedish island of Gotland. It belongs to the parish ( swedish socks ) Ardre in the parish ( swedish församling ) Guard in the diocese of Visby.

Location

The church is located 38 km south-east of Visby, 20 km south-east of Roma, 5 km north of Ljugarn, 37 km south of Slite and 20 km north-east of Hemse near the east coast of Gotland.

Church building

The Church of plastered limestone is one of the smallest on Gotland. It is provided with a tower in Romanesque style from about 1200. The tower has a high peak, which offers a bell -level room and provided with sound holes and a small canopy is. The hood of 1902 replaced a similar precursor.

The nave and the choir were built together about the year 1250. The sacristy is recent and was built in 1802. 1900-1902 the church was rebuilt.

The choir has a small Romanesque portal, whose capital is richly decorated with sculptures, from about 1200. Was moved from an older church, to which the present tower was built, here.

The tower in the west a small and simple Romanesque portal. Two gothic portals are part of the nave, one with a high pediment in the south and easier in the north. The choir, the nave and the tower chamber are each covered by a tent roof.

The interior is strongly influenced by the restoration of 1900-1902 by the architect Axel Herman Hägg. The church has some medieval wooden sculptures: a triumphal cross from the middle of the 13th century, an image of the Madonna of about 1500 and an altarpiece from the early 14th century. In its present version, the church is a nave hall church with a narrower choir who has just altar walls. The gable roof of the church is covered with black shingles. The church tower is provided with a tip. The interior walls are plastered and the interior is covered by a tent roof. The sacristy is covered with a trapezoidal roof.

The baptismal font dates from the first half of the 13th century.
