The river Åreälven in the Swedish province of Jämtland is the most important source of the river Indalsälven.

It has its origin in the mountain Skalsvattnet, which lies at the Swedish- Norwegian border. From there it flows in an easterly direction. It flows through several small lakes, including the Tännsjön and Östra Noren. Between these two lakes is the 37 m high waterfall Tännfors. Until place Duved the Länsväg 322 runs largely along the course of the river Åreälven. Thereafter, the flow of European Route 14 to its mouth at Järpen is accompanied into the lake of Israel.

He passed on his route belonging to the municipality of Åre villages Björnänge and Undersåker. Shortly before his mouth the Åreälven overcomes the waterfall Ristafall.
