Area chart

An area chart graphically depicts the evolution of volumes represents the display form based on the line graph. The space between the axle and the lines are highlighted with different colors, patterns or hatches. Often two or more sets are compared. In this case one speaks of a stacked area chart or subdivided.

From a superimposed area chart is when intersect the curves associated with at least once. The colors of the surfaces need to be presented differently for each case.

Particularly well suited for this representation comparing multiple time series.
