The Arena da Baixada (formerly Estádio Joaquim Américo Guimarães, and Kyocera Arena) in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, in the state of Paraná is the club's football stadium of Atlético Paranaense and currently offers 28 272 spectators.

History

The old stadium

The construction of the stadium began in 1912. Was named after Joaquim Américo Guimarães, the stadium, the then President of Internacional Futebol Clube. This was the predecessor club Atlético. 1934 got the sports facility then its present name Arena da Baixada. The opening took place two years later, on September 6, 1914. Played for the inauguration SC Internacional against Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro, the guests of honor from Rio de Janeiro defeated while the hosts clear with 7:1. Between 1970 and 1984 the stadium was broke. From 1995-1996, the stadium was then demolished.

The new stadium

The construction work on the new venue of Paranaense launched on 1 December 1997 and ran until June 20, 1999. On 24 June 1999, the current structure with a match between Atlético and the club Cerro Porteño from Paraguay was opened, which the hosts with two: 1 won. The cost of this first phase of construction amounted to 30 million U.S. dollars. From March 2005 to 1 April 2008, the stadium was the name of the Japanese conglomerate Kyocera Kyocera Arena.

On December 16, 2001 lived 31,740 spectators in the first leg of the Championship final between Atletico Paranaense and AD São Caetano, in which Atlético a 4-2 win preparing his ultimate success in that year. The attendance record still exists today.

Tag for the 2014 World Cup

On 31 May 2009, the soccer 's world governing body FIFA announced the funds earmarked for the football World Cup in 2014 twelve venues. For the World Cup tournament, the arena will be modernized and expanded with the closure of the open stadium side to 40,000 spectators.
