ARENA ... of the young arts is an international theater festival with a focus on performance, dance and physical theater. Organised by students of the Friedrich- Alexander University in Erlangen festival takes place annually over the period of a week instead.

ARENA ... of the young arts is an international theater festival that presented annually in Erlangen six days the most diverse varieties of performance, as well as the dance and physical theater. The main focus is on contemporary, interdisciplinary, multi-media and experimental productions, which have developed independently of the institutionalized theater system and be implemented in non-traditional venues. During the festival week to present an average of 12 individual artists and their art groups.

ARENA ... of the young arts has set itself the goal, the view of the international theater scene to dilate and to promote the exchange between international artists, scientists, representatives of the media and theater practice and the audience. Why are looked after by a professional jury staging talks, panel discussions, lectures and workshops led by artists other integral parts of the ARENA program.

On Saturday the festival week of the Final Night Party will be awarded three prizes in the frame. A five-member international jury of experts from science and practice of theater and media awards the Jury Prize for the most successful production of the festival. But the audience selects his favorites. After each performance will be issued on ballots reviews. The production with the best overall rating gets awarded the audience prize. Regardless of the award by the jury and the audience also chooses the ARENA team from a group with which it will develop a new co-production until the next festival.

The worn by volunteers festival finance the artists appearing without a fee the costs incurred for travel, meals and accommodation. A self- financing of the festival from the proceeds of tickets sold is not possible. Therefore ARENA eV is dependent on the support of partners from culture, politics and economy.

The co-production

The co-production in ARENA ... of the young arts celebrates in 2011 its 20th anniversary! Here the contact Erlanger student should be promoted with contemporary forms of theater and exchanges with professional artists. Together with a group from the previous year, a completely new piece will be developed which will be premiered at the next festival. In this so-called ARENA co-production students are actively involved in the realization of projects in various fields.

KoLabs

The production activity of ARENA ... has promoted for years sustainably young artists and Erlanger students and offer them a platform to realize their projects. Kolab is understood as a dynamic production base, the ... freelance young artists and ensembles in the context of the institution ARENA available. Kolab is the production infrastructure for new or further development of projects and can be tailored individually to their needs. Consequently, in the context of Kolab both residencies, showings, workshops, as well as an ARENA - border cooperation with other venues conceivable and desirable.

History

The 40th International Theatre Festival stages of students in 1989 was to establish eV for a group Erlanger Theatre Studies students the opportunity ARENA. After the first ARENA event the following year, the first festival took place in 1991 ARENA, in which, among others, the theater director Jan Bosse was a member of the organizational team. In collaboration with the Centro Drammatico Elvira, a group that had occurred in the previous year, a co-production took place in 1992 for the first time, which has since become part of the festival and is selected annually by the organization team. In 1994, ARENA was awarded eV the award of the city of Erlangen.

Since 1995 exists " ARENA spots" - an independent festival newspaper, which is published by an independent editorial and reported daily in both German and in English on the latest events of the festival. So wrote the Spots team among other critiques of the individual performances and conducts interviews with artists, judges and team members. In the founding year of the festival newspaper in 1995, it was a co-production with the American action theater group, The Living Theatre ( " Your House is mine" ). An international jury of five representatives of theater and media practice assessed in 1998 for the first time all the pieces. They awarded since the best of the festival and gives further existing since 1993 Audience Award. The staging talks Talk Arts were established in 2001. In 2003, the independently working film crew " ARENA Zoom" (formerly ARENA TV) was launched, which documents the festival ever since. The members of zoom have an independent artistic standards and work as well as the festival newspaper "spots" in complete independently.

To emphasize the openness of art forms of all kinds, the festival was renamed ... the young arts in 2005 by " International Week of the Young Theatre" in ARENA.

2010

ARENA ... of the young arts celebrating its 20th anniversary and has the motto ' future on bread '. The co-production is a durational dance installation, carried out by the Israeli- British-French performance collective ' Tadam Company '. To mark the 20-year anniversary, ARENA is - apart from the normal program flow - in creative and artistic ways of its own history apart and are a jubilee book out.

2009

The ARENA ... Festival is back under one motto: LebensART lifestyle. The Portuguese group ' Pedro Ribeiro / Sofia Fragoso ' link in their performance dance, painting, theater, video and photography to a spectacular fashion show in Erlangen Railway.

2003

The Festival is dedicated to the senses and the senses and makes theater with the " theater sense " experience. The Theatre Today journalist Andreas Jüttner reviewed the co-production ' Sine Loco ' ARENA ... and the St. Petersburg Artists' Collective ' Axe '. The additional new event series talkART offers the opportunity with the artists directly according to the ideas in the dialogue to occur.

2000

According to the motto "Live wild and dangerous " designed a completely new team, the tenth anniversary festival. Completely without the old team members it is not but, nevertheless, it create the "new " to establish new structures and to make a successful anniversary festival on the legs.

1999

1998

1997

1993

1992

The first co-production is realized with the Centro Dramatico Elvira from Spain. For the first time, the festival is under a motto, but that is very open and gives a price. The focus will be expanded from a mere student theater on the whole independent scene, accordingly, the festival will be renamed the ' International Week of the young theater '.

1991

The first real festival with 10 groups from 9 different countries will be provided under the name of International Week of the young student theater on its feet. Michael Frühbis writes: " ARENA 91, it was like a noise. For a brief moment, the perception changed. Everything felt different, was faster, freer, followed its own laws. "

1990

On January 11, the club was founded ARENA International theater students and sorority eV ( AIT). The current head of the puppet theater festivals Bodo Birk and the now renowned director Jan Bosse part of the founding team, but must as freshmen struggle for recognition.
