Argea

Argeia (Greek Ἀργεία ) is a female figure from Greek mythology.

Argeia was the daughter of King Adrastus of Argos and the amphitheater. When banished from Thebes Polynices, son of Oedipus, came to Argos, Argeia was his wife and she bore him Thersander. According to a fragment of the Ehoien (woman catalog) Hesiod she came to Thebes and took part in the funeral of Oedipus. With the help of his father- Thebes Polynices wanted to forcibly win back his brother Eteocles; it came to the train of the Seven against Thebes. The train failed and the brothers killed each other. According to some versions the word forbade Creon to bury the body of Polynices, but his sister Antigone defied this ban. Hyginus Mythographus reported that Argeia helped Antigone, to raise the dead Polyneices on the funeral pyre of his brother Eteocles. This surprised by guards, Antigone was captured, but escaped Argeia.
