Argentiera

Argentiera is a fraction of the municipality in the province of Sassari Sassari in the Italian region Sardinia.

Geography

Argentiera is one of the few settlements on the north west coast of Sardinia, the historic landscape La nurra.

History

Argentiera is a historic mining settlement. Already Romans, Carthaginians and Genoese dismantled at Argentiera silver and iron. Beginning of the last century was mined with modern technology and the historic mine dumps were dug. After the 2nd World War, the mining was abandoned, fell into the conveyor systems.

Tourism

There are several abandoned settlements on the coast. The abandoned buildings are used now as holiday homes or to gastronomic purposes again.
