Argentine National Observatory

Adolf Repsold ( born August 31, 1806 Hamburg, † March 13, 1871 ibid ) was syringe master and designer of optical instruments in Hamburg.

Life

Adolf Repsold was the son of Johann Georg Repsold. After his father's death in a fire use on January 14, 1830 Adolf Repsold took over along with his brother Georg his father's business. The company now called A. & G. Repsold. Even more than the paternal operation, the brothers relocated to the design and construction of optical, in particular astronomical instruments. Since his brother was involved in its own roof deck rafting business, the brunt was Adolf Repsold.

Like his father before him, was Adolf Repsold syringe champion in Hamburg, who had to organize a fire brigade in case of fire. On 5 May 1842, the Hamburg fire broke out in the dike road that destroyed much of the city center of Hamburg in the following 4 days. It was not until the demolition of the City Hall created the necessary firebreak to stop the flames.

In 1856 Adolf Repsold upper syringe champion. Two years later he set up in his house, the Central Bureau of the extinguishing system. In 1858 his son Johann Adolf partner of the firm.

1867 Adolf Repsold different from the company, while his third son Oscar was taken.

Working

The first major task was the completion of the 1818 begun by Johann Georg Repsold circle dividing machine for the precise manufacture of tick marks on the setting circles of the optical devices. The firm of A. & G. Repsold now developed into one of the most prestigious optical companies of that time.
