Strauchmargerite ( Argyranthemum frutescens )

Argyranthemum is a genus of the daisy family (Asteraceae). To her halbstrauchige include 22 species, including the Strauchmargerite ( Argyranthemum frutescens ).

Features

They are evergreen subshrubs, growing upright and bushy and rarely exceeding one meter high. The leaves are divided tiefgelappt or pale to blue-green. In cool areas the species bloom from spring to autumn, in warm areas in winter and spring. The flower heads have 2.5 to eight inches in diameter and have white to pink or yellow ray florets.

Occurrence

The species are originally native to the Canary Islands and Madeira. Worldwide they are now naturalized in many coastal areas. They grow in light, well drained soil preferably in full sun. Many species are quite frost sensitive.

Use

Several species are grown as cut flowers and / or potted plants, especially A. frutescens and A. maderense. By breeding a number of varieties have arisen.
