Arik Einstein

Arik Einstein (Hebrew אריק איינשטיין; born January 3, 1939 in Tel Aviv, † November 26, 2013 ) was an Israeli singer, songwriter and actor.

Life

Arik Einstein grew up as the son of actor Yaakov Einstein (1909-1970) to Tel Aviv. Like many other Israeli artists, he started his career in an entertainment group of the Israeli military. After the end of his military service, he worked in various music and theater groups. He has also performed as an actor, including in the film Sallah Shabati by Ephraim Kishon.

Through its participation in the Gesher Hayarkon Trio Shlishiyat and two solo albums Einstein was already nationally known when he and Shmuel " Shmulik " Kraus and Josie Katz 1966, the trio The High Windows: founded (Hebrew החלונות הגבוהים, HaHalonot HaGvohim ). The eponymous album the group was referred to as the cornerstone of Israeli pop and rock music. With Kraus as a songwriter, singer and guitarist as well as Katz and Einstein as singers, the trio joined the then not very well known in Israel folk-rock with some self-written, sometimes known Hebrew texts. Some of the songs were very controversial at the time. So Hayal shel Shokolad ( "Chocolate Soldier " ) have not played with his anti- military text and Yehezkel with his satirical reference to the prophet Ezekiel in the radio.

In the 1970s, Einstein turned next to his musical activities a number of films that deal with the lives of Israeli youth. In the following decades he has dealt with various musical styles: from Israeli folk songs about the Beatles -influenced pop music and ballads to classic rock music.
