Aristobulus Minor

Aristobulus was the younger son of Aristobulus, son of Herod the Great and thus his grandson. He lived around the time of Christ and died after his deceased brother 44 AD Herod Agrippa I. While his brothers Herod Agrippa I as King of Judea ( 37-44 AD) and Herod as ruler of Chalcis ( 44-48 AD) came to power, Aristobulus remained a private citizen. His relationship with his brother Herod Agrippa was clouded and he led him over to the Roman governor Flaccus in connection with border disputes of corruption. As in the Jerusalem temple a statue of Caligula was to be erected, he held, however, in the year 40 at the court in Tiberias on and prevented with his brothers the establishment in which they convinced the governor Publius Petronius from the fact that in the enforcement of the command to break a riot would. Aristobulus was married to Jotape, daughter of King Sampsigeramos II of Emesa. The marriage was, however, granted the only child of only the deaf and dumb Jotape.
