Armin-Wolf-Arena

Armin Wolf Arena in Regensburg is the largest baseball stadium in Germany. It is in the Baseball Express Park and since 1998 a venue for the Regensburg legionnaires. The stadium has a capacity of 1100 seats and 2000 standing room and was named after the sports reporter Armin Wolf ( radio house Regensburg ) named.

As an officially recognized Bavarian State Training Centre baseball and Bundesstützpunkt south -east of the stadium in the city of Regensburg is also home to the selection team of the Bavarian Association and the Youth National Team.

Construction phase

On September 8, 1996, the extraordinary general meeting of the Bavarian Baseball and Softball Association decided eV for the award of the State Training Centre at Regensburg. Twelve days later, recognized the Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Art Regensburg as an official regional training center.

After the premature building permit by the City of Regensburg and by the Free State of Bavaria was begun on 1 September 1997 with the construction.

After a construction period of ten months and a construction cost of 1 million euros the Armin - Wolf- Arena was opened on 21 July 1998 solemnly under the B- European Cup Winners' Cup, the won after the Legionaries.

As a location for the hosting of some games of Baseball World Cup in Europe in 2009, the stadium was rebuilt and expanded. The foundation stone of the new Armin - Wolf- Arena was laid on November 13, 2008 by Mayor Hans Schaidinger. The seating capacity has been increased from 3,100 to 11,500 seats in the meantime. Also, new changing rooms and not pre-existing, fixed sanitary facilities were built. Overall, the conversion has cost 1.4 million euros.

Any additional grandstands have been dismantled after the World Cup, only 1,100 seats remained mounted on the existing courses.

Use

Since then discharged into the largest baseball stadium in Germany in addition to the Bundesliga games of the Legionaries of regular national and international competitions. So the invitational German Baseball Open is held every year since 1999 in which teams from the continents of Australia, Europe and North America already been guests. In 2004, the Regensburg stadium was also home of the Baseball Championship ( B pool).

From the 9th to 12th September 2009 played a World Cup preliminary round groups with the countries USA, Germany, China and Venezuela in the expanded stadium for a place in the next round.

Since 2010, the bookbinder Cup takes place in the Armin - Wolf- Arena annually. This play on a weekend four German professional teams against each other. The winner receives a € 1,500 prize money. This year was the bookbinder Cup place from 11 to 13 July 2011. Participants were the Solingen Alligators, the Bonn Capitals, the bookbinder Legionaries of Regensburg and the Paderborn Untouchables ( 2010 winner ). The winner is the bookbinder Cup this year for the visitors from Regensburg.

Of 13 July 2010 to 31 August 2010 was a daily open-air cinema event instead. The open-air cinema was 2011 of 1 July 2011 to 31 August 2011 again instead.

Regensburg 2012 was host to one of the World Baseball Classic qualifying rounds that took place in the enlarged Armin - Wolf- Arena from 20th to 24th September.
