Arne Novák

Arne Novák ( born March 2, 1880 Litomyšl, † November 26, 1939, Polička, actually Arnost Novák ), was a famous Czech literary historian and literary critic, specialist in German and Bohemist.

Life

He was born the son of school teacher Josef Novák and writer Tereza Novakova. Novák learned at the high school in Litomyšl and Prague. Between 1898 and 1902 he studied German and Bohemistics at the Charles University in Prague. In 1920 he was appointed professor at Masaryk University in Brno. Between 1938 and 1939 he was twice rector of this university. From 1921 he worked as a permanent employee of Lidové noviny. He was also active in the magazines Volné směry, Lumír, Rozhledy.
