Arnemuiden

Arnemuiden is a small village, which belongs to the municipality of Middelburg. The town is located on the peninsula of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Arnemuiden is located approximately 3 km from the city center Middelburg.

The Arnemuiden station is located on the Zeeland Lijn, where the Stoptreins keep Roosendaal and Vlissingen. Furthermore, Arnemuiden its own motorway connection to the A58.

Arnemuiden, whose name means mouth of Arne, in the late Middle Ages was a fishing village. It was destroyed during the Eighty Years' War in 1573 by Spanish troops. To promote reconstruction, William of Orange was a year later give the town a city charter. The time still predominantly Catholic city went out gradually ( the rich first) to Calvinism over.

In 1971 Arnemuiden was incorporated into Middelburg. There is still a somewhat closed community, where sometimes even costumes are worn not only for church on Sundays. Many of the nearly 5,000 people live on fishing and fish processing.
