Arnprior

Arnprior is a town in the east of Renfrew County in eastern Ontario in Canada. It lies at the mouth of the Madawaska River, where it flows in the Ottawa Valley in the Ottawa River. 7500 inhabitants of the city counted in the 2001 census. Arnprior in Canada's economic region.

History

The area was Archibald McNab settled for the first time, who named the area after the homeland of his ancestors Arnprior in Scotland. After 1840 by his despotic way he the people who lived on his land was expropriated, the area was uncultivated until 1851. In 1851 it was finally connected to the timber production that originated in eastern Ontario. Arnprior was finally recognized in 1862 as a village. Thirty years later (1892 ) was recognized as a city Arnprior.

Transport and roads

Arnprior is located on the Trans-Canada Highway system, where the Highway 417 east to Highway 17 west. The city is served by the Arnprior / South Renfrew Municipal Airport and a nearby landing area for seaplanes. Scheduled commercial flights are from the Ottawa / MacDonald -Cartier International Airport, which is 56 kilometers east of the city possible.

The city lies on the Ottawa River, but is separated from the deeper Ottawa River and the St. Lawrence channel through waterfalls.
