History

On 3 June 1946, the French Navy issued a specification for a carrier-based aircraft, which should reach a top speed of 900 km / h. In addition to the developed Vernisse and Galtier VG -90 and the draft Aérocentre NC 1080 North 2200 were submitted. The VG -90 was based on experiences of the Arsenal VG -70 and launched on 27 September 1949 in Villa Roche Modeste Vonner aboard their 15-minute maiden flight. On January 26, 1950, the aircraft reached a speed of 800 km / h and on April 1 the comparative flight began with the other designs in the Flight Test Centre Centre d' Essais en Vol On May 25, 1950, the actually foreseen as a test pilot, but at the start of testing Pierre Decroo injured by a test flight with the machine. As graduation, he began a flight at low altitude on Brétigny than likely a part of the landing gear door broke, crashed into the elevator and Decroo lost control over the machine crashed and it was killed. The accident delayed the flight test program for almost a year, so that the second only slightly improved prototype only in June 1951 launched its first flight. On 21 February 1952 the prototype crashed on a flight to Istres on by a design fault in the servo control, causing the aircraft began to flutter, and then tore off the elevator, at Gipcy. The pilot Claude Dellis was killed, as well as the built- Martin -Baker ejection seat failed. Then the project in favor of the Sud- Est Aquilon was discontinued in June 1952, the construction of the third prototype, which was to be fitted as the first machine of the production version of VG -91 with a Snecma Atar 101F engine stopped. This was scrapped in July 1978.

Construction

The VG -90 was a single-engine and single-seat low -wing monoplane with a conventional tail unit in all-metal construction, with the first prototype still had a structure of metal beams with Birkenholzbeplankung.
