Artas, Isère

Artas is a rural, commune with a population of 1673 ( effective 1st January 2011) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Région Saint- Jeannaise and the canton of Saint -Jean -de- Bournay.

Geography

Artas is located in the region of Porte des Alpes (Gate of the Alps), 35 kilometers south-east of Lyon, 15 kilometers southwest of Bourgoin- Jallieu and 9 kilometers southeast of Ville Fontaine, between the neighboring communities Meyrieu -les- Étangs in the Southeast, Saint -Jean -de- bournay ( both cantonal capital ) in the southwest and Charantonnay in the north. History

1793 Artas was given the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ).

On June 10, 1906 Mother's Day was celebrated for the first time in Artas. Artas, making it the first community in the whole of Isere, which celebrated Mother's Day. Organized by the Union fraternelle of pères de familles méritants d' Artas ( fraternal Union of the fathers of deserving families ') the streets were decorated, organized a parade and distributed certificates and gifts to mothers.

Attractions

An original church of Saint -Pierre in 1095 was first mentioned. Around the year 1190, a priory of Saint- Pierre was mentioned, which belonged to the abbey of Cluny. In the 19th century, large parts of the church were renovated and built a church tower in the style of Neo-Romanesque. The former priory now serves as Mairie and the school.

North West of the center is La Grand Pierre (, the great stone '), the (, Felstone also Pierre du Diable ') is called.

Economy and infrastructure

There are several quarries in Artas, several shops and a restaurant. Major lines of business of Artasiens are farming and viticulture.

There is a gym, a tennis court, a football stadium, two basketball courts and a Boulodrome in Artas. In addition, the municipality has a École maternelle and primary school.

The municipal area protected geographical indication ( PGI ) for Emmentaler ( Emmental français Est - Central) and white, rosé and red wine are (Isère).
