Arthrocereus glaziovii is a flowering plant in the genus Arthrocereus from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors glaziovii the French plant collector and botanist Auguste Francois Marie Glaziou, the 1861 stayed in Brazil until 1895.

Description

Arthrocereus glaziovii grows with upright shoots and somewhat spread out side shoots from 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter. On the shoots are 12 low ribs. The 20 to 30 spines are subulate, brownish to cinereous and between 1.5 to 2.5 inches long.

The white flowers are slightly curved and up to 6 inches long. Are formed elongated fruits up to 2 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Arthrocereus glaziovii is common in the east and south of Belo Horizonte in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais in altitudes from 1300 to 1750 meters. The circulation area covers about 1000 km ².

The first description as Cereus glaziovii by Karl Moritz Schumann was published in 1890. Nigel Paul Taylor and Daniela Zappi Cristina set the style in 1991 in the genus Arthrocereus. Nomenclatural synonyms are Leocereus glaziovii ( K.Schum. ) Britton & Rose (1920 ) and Trichocereus glaziovii ( K.Schum. ) Werderm. ( 1933).

Arthrocereus glaziovii is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as ' Endangered ( EN )', ie endangered classified.
