Arthur Bergen

Arthur Bergen ( born October 24, 1875 in Vienna, † 1943 in Auschwitz ) was an Austrian actor and film director.

Life

He made his debut in 1894 at the Court Theatre Meiningen. In 1904 he became an actor in Berlin, where the Berlin theater and Trianon Theatre, he was active among others, both as an actor and as a director.

In 1913 he found his way to the movie, and Bergen played in several productions with. Since the mid- twenties he was especially film director who dramas, melodramas, romances and comedies staged. In the early sound film era he was only seen as an actor in very small roles.

The seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 ended his career for good. He was not classified as Aryan and ruled in July 1938 from the Reich Film Chamber.

On March 2, 1943 Bergen and his wife were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Presumably they have been murdered there soon after their arrival.
