Arthur Besse

Arthur L. Besse is a pseudonym of a group of French mathematicians, which include, among others, Marcel Berger.

In particular, they published a monograph on Einstein manifolds.

Berger and his students organized in 1975 a workshop on manifolds with closed geodesics, which took place in Besse -en- Chandesse from which a book was written, she published under the pseudonym Arthur Besse. The first name Arthur plays at the Round Table of King Arthur at ( the workshop was announced by the CNRS as Table Ronde ). Following the example of Nicolas Bourbaki was followed by other books and meetings, so Einstein manifolds in Espalion in southwest France, from which emerged a well-known book.

The mathematicians involved are listed in the preface, for example, Einstein Manifolds ( there, among other things, Hermann Karcher, Jean -Pierre Bourguignon, Geneviève Averous, Nigel Hitchin, Jerry Kazdan, Pierre Pansu, Paul Gauduchon, Dennis Deturck, Lionel Bérard - Bergery, Andrei Derdzinski Josette Houillot, Norihito Koiso, Albert Polombo, John A. Thorpe, Jacques Lafontaine, Liane Valere )

Paul Arthur Besse Gauduchon organized a seminar at the Ecole Polytechnique.

2008, the Group transferred the proceeds from the sale of their books of the European Mathematical Society for support of young mathematicians from the third world and announced to let the project fall asleep.
