Arthur Dobbs

Arthur Dobbs (* April 2, 1689 in County Antrim, Ireland, † March 28, 1765 in Town Creek, North Carolina) was from 1 November 1754 to his death Governor of the Royal Colony of North Carolina.

He was from 1727 to 1730 Member of the Irish Parliament, co-founder of the Royal Dublin Society and amateur botanist.

Dobbs first reported the existence of the Venus Flytrap. At his instigation, Christopher Middleton was 1741/1742 lead an expedition to search for the Northwest Passage, but failed.
