Arthur Engelbert

Arthur Engelbert is a German media scholar.

Life

Before studying Arthur Engelbert worked for seven years in a Dortmund steel mill as an industrial electronics. In 1985 he received his doctorate with a study on the line with Gottfried Boehm and Max Imdahl, was subsequently employed for the conversion of the Voelklinger blast furnace plant at the State Conservation Office in Saarbrücken and 1987-1992 Researcher at the University of Arts in Berlin.

1996 Engelbert received a professorship at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and his habilitation in 1998 in the subject " media theory and art history " with Bazon Brock in Wuppertal. Between 1992 and 1998 he took teaching positions for the dissemination of contemporary visual arts at various universities and art colleges.

In addition to teaching Arthur Engelbert has ten years led a multimedia company (MIB ) in Berlin, for many years was on the board of the Werkbund Archive in Berlin and has, since 1999, with many trips connected, interdisciplinary research project ( cultrans ), the transfers between cultures and arts studied.

Since 2010 it belongs to the DFG Research Training Group on " Visibility and Visual " at the University of Potsdam.

2011 appeared in the publication " Global Images. A study on the practice of the pictures."
