Arthur Hailey

Arthur Hailey ( born April 5, 1920 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England; † 24 November 2004 Lyford Cay (island of New Providence Island ) in the Bahamas ) was a British- Canadian writer.

Hailey, son of a British working-class family, had to leave school at the age of fourteen, as his parents could not pay any more fees. 1939 Hailey went as a pilot for the Royal Air Force and served in Europe, the Middle East and in India.

In 1947 he emigrated to Canada. There he worked in Toronto as first real estate agent, then he edited a magazine for the bus and truck transport and wrote screenplays for television productions. One of these stories was 1956 flight at risk. Two years later the story first as a book Hailey's international success was. This was followed by the classic 1959 novel Last doctor diagnosis.

The breakthrough Arthur Hailey in the 1960s with the novels Hotel and Airport, both of which, as films and television series adapted, became worldwide hits. His books have achieved worldwide circulation of more than 200 million copies and have been translated into 40 languages. Through intensive study of the sources and interviews with insiders, he tried to give high degrees of realism as possible his books.
