Arthur Hawley Scribner

Arthur Hawley Scribner and Arthur H. Scribner ( born March 15, 1859 in Manhattan, † July 13, 1932 in Mount Kisco ) was an entrepreneur, publisher and patron.

Life

Arthur H. Scribner Scribner came from the family whose ancestor Charles Scribner had the publisher Charles Scribner's Sons co-founded in New York City, the publisher is now one of Simon & Schuster. He studied at Princeton University; During his studies he became a member and organizer of the Ivy Club. In June 1881 he joined the family business, Charles Scribner's Sons. From 1916 to 1920 he was president of the Grolier Club. The Princeton University, he bequeathed $ 150,000. The publisher seat was located in the Scribner Building also known as " Old Scribner Building ," it was built by Ernest Flagg in the style of Beaux -Arts architecture in 1893. It is located at number 153-157 on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, at 21st Street. It served as the corporate headquarters of Charles Scribner Sons Publishing. Ernest Flagg has designed another company building in the years 1912 to 1913, the Charles Scribner Sons building at 597 Fifth Avenue.
