Arthur Hood, 1st Baron Hood of Avalon

Arthur William Acland Hood, 1st Baron Hood of Avalon GCB (* July 14, 1824, † November 15, 1901 ) was an admiral of the British Royal Navy.

He belonged to the famous family Hood, which has produced many eminent personalities in the Royal Navy. He was the third son of Sir Alexander Hood, 2nd Baronet, of Captain Alexander Hood grandchildren and a great-nephew of the famous Admiral Sir Samuel Hood, 1st Baronet. He was from 1885 to 1886 and from 1886 to 1889 First Sea Lord. In 1886 he was promoted to Admiral and knighted in 1892 for Baron Hood of Avalon. After his death the title became extinct.
