Arthur Hoyt

Arthur Hoyt ( born March 19, 1874 in Georgetown, Colorado, † January 4, 1953 in Woodland Hills, California ) was an American actor.

Life and career

Born in the State of Colorado, Hoyt were over the age of 30 years, made ​​his debut on Broadway. However, his debut play was not a great success and as a result he joined up in 1911 to only twice on Broadway. He went to Hollywood in 1914 and played in his first film, here was his career much more successful and he established himself as a character actor. Mostly portrayed the lanky actor " little men " who had to deal with major or minor problems. 1918 Hoyt could also be directing two smaller films. For his brother, Harry O. Hoyt director, he entered in 1925 in the silent film The Lost World on. The change in the sound film a few years later he succeeded with minor problems.

From the 1930s, Hoyt was no longer mentioned with increasing age uncredited, but he appeared in the highly successful films. So played a somewhat confused motel owner in Screwballklassiker It Happened One Night (1934 ) and a mayor in Preston Sturges ' The Great McGinty Satire ( 1940). He joined in all Sturges films on 1940-1947. After nearly 300 films, he finished his career in 1947. Hoyt, of whose family life nothing is known, was 78 years old.
