Arthur Jones (musician)

Arthur Jones (* 1940 in Cleveland, † 1998 in New York City ) was an American alto saxophonist of free jazz, who was known for a warm, despite his high-energy game sound.

Jones initially worked for several years in a rock'n'roll band. After he discovered the music of Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy, he stepped on the New York scene in appearance, where he played in the group of Frank Wright; he was also on his album Your Prayer (1967 ) involved. In addition, he worked with Jacques Coursil. He became a member of Sunny Murray Acoustical Swing Unit, with which he went in 1969 to Paris in 1968. There he played two albums as a leader; in the recording of Africanasia ' worked with most of the musicians of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. He was also involved in numerous other recordings for BYG Actuel, about of Coursil, Archie Shepp, Sunny Murray and Burton Greene.
