Arthur Roche

Arthur Roche ( born March 6, 1950 in Batley Carr, United Kingdom) is a Curia, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Arthur Roche attended St. Joseph's Primary School, St John Fisher High School in Dewsbury and Christleton High School. In 1969 he was sent to Spain to St. Alban 's College, Valladolid. Roche studied from 1969 to 1975 Catholic Theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas. Then he returned to his home diocese and received on July 19, 1975 by the Bishop of Leeds, William Gordon Wheeler, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Arthur Roche worked as assistant priest at Holy Rood Parish in Barnsley. In 1978 he became private secretary to Bishop William Gordon Wheeler and 1979 also Vice-Chancellor of the Diocese of Leeds and chaplain of St. John Bosco School. Roche organized in May 1982 the visit of Pope John Paul II in York. From 1982 to 1989, Arthur Roche at St. Anne's Cathedral in Leeds worked from 1986 to 1991 he was Secretary for Finance of the Diocese of Leeds. In January 1989, Roche was also pastor of St. Wilfrid 's Parish in Leeds. In 1991 he was sent for further studies in Catholic theology in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University. During this time, Arthur Roche lived in the Venerable English College. Roche earned a licentiate in the Department of Catholic theology. He was Spiritual Director of the Venerable English College in 1992. From April 1996 to April 2002 was Arthur Roche Secretary of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales. During this time, Pope John Paul II elevated him to the Pontifical honorary prelates.

On 12 April 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Rusticiana and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop in Westminster. He received his episcopal consecration on 10 May 2001, the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy - O'Connor, in Westminster Cathedral; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Leeds, David Constant, and the retired auxiliary bishop in Westminster, Victor Guazzelli. In the time Bishop Arthur Roche was Chairman of the Committee for Pastoral Affairs in the Archdiocese of Westminster and the Committee on Finance and the Catholic Children's Society in Westminster.

On 16 July 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Leeds. Following adoption of the arguments put forward on health grounds by Bishop David Constant cancellation request by Pope John Paul II on April 7, 2004, Arthur Roche Bishop of Leeds.

Since 2002, Roche has been Chairman of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, and since 2004 he is Chairman of the Department of Christian Life and Worship. In addition, Arthur Roche is a member of the Standing Committee of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales. He is responsible for the English College in Rome and Valladolid.

On 26 June 2012, he was called by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, succeeding Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia Curia OP. In addition, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop.
