Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds

The Diocese of Leeds (Latin: Dioecesis Loidensis ) is a facility located in the United Kingdom, Roman Catholic diocese based in Leeds.

History

The Diocese of Leeds in 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern District established as Apostolic Vicariate of Yorkshire District. On September 29, 1850, Apostolic Vicariate of Yorkshire District was by Pope Pius IX. raised to the bishopric and renamed diocese Beverley - with the Apostolic Constitution Universalis Ecclesiae - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England. It was the Archdiocese of Westminster is a suffragan. The Diocese of Beverley was on December 20, 1878 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Middlesbrough. On 20 December 1878, Diocese of Beverley was renamed the Diocese of Leeds. The Diocese of Leeds announced on May 30, 1980 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Hallam.
