Arthur Useldinger

Arthur Useldinger ( born July 8, 1904 in Esch -sur-Alzette, † March 15, 1978 ) was a Luxembourgian politician (KPL ) and resistance fighter against the Nazi occupation.

Life

Useldinger worked as a cabin improvement in Arbed. Since 1932 he was a member of the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL ). In 1933 he founded the Society of Friends of the Soviet Union ( after the war he was chairman of the Society Luxembourg- URSS ). Since 1934 he was secretary of the Escher Freethinkers Association and employees of the Communist Party newspaper People's Voice.

After the occupation of Luxembourg by German troops in 1940, he belonged to the leadership of the communist resistance and was editor of the magazine Truth illegal.

From 1945 until his death in 1978 was one Useldinger as a Member of the Luxembourg Parliament. From 1945 to 1949 and again from 1970 to 1978 he was Mayor of Esch-sur- Alzette, the second largest city in the country. He was a longtime member of the Central Committee and the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPL.

Arthur Useldinger was in 1940 married to Yvonne Useldinger, a resistance fighter, Ravensbrück survivor and the Women's Association Union des Femmes Luxembourgeoises later chairman.
