Artjärvi

Artjärvi [ ɑrtjærvi ] (Swedish Artsjö ) is a former municipality in southern Finland. She was part of the joint management Lahti in the landscape Päijät -Häme. January 1, 2011, it is part of the municipality Orimattila.

Artjärvi is located about 100 kilometers northeast of Helsinki. Neighboring communities were Lapinjärvi, Iitti, Orimattila and Myrskylä. The entire population is Finnish- Artjärvis. The municipality had an area of ​​197.33 km ² (of which 177.01 km ² of land and 20.32 km ² inland water area) and most recently in 1407 inhabitants. The community Artjärvi entertained twinning to Vallentuna in Sweden ( since 1960) and Mäksä in Estonia ( since 1992).

The community included, in addition to the eponymous capital Artjärvi the villages Hietana, Kinttula, Ratula, Salmela and Villikkala and a few other scattered small settlements. The settlement was focused on the isthmus between the three lakes Villikanjärvi, Pyhajarvi and Säyhtee.

2002-2006 established the Finnish astronomical society Ursa in Arts Järvi an observatory with an affiliated training center. The control room is equipped with a mirror telescope of the type of building Meade LX200GPS with a focal length of 4,064 millimeters.
